INVISTA Victoria site earns top OSHA safety designation
US Occupational Safety & Health Administration recertifies Voluntary Protection Program STAR status
INVISTA’s nylon intermediates manufacturing facility in Victoria has once again earned STAR status, the highest designation under the U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration’s (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). First certified in 2007, this is the second STAR recertification for the site.
“Our employees work hard each day to earn this recertification recognition and uphold our strong commitment to safety,” said INVISTA Site Manager, Kevin Burke. “We strive for 10,000 percent compliance, meaning 100 percent of employees comply with safety requirements and regulations 100 percent of the time. I am very proud of the commitment to safety demonstrated by the Victoria site employees and of this second recertification as a VPP STAR facility.”
OSHA awarded the VPP STAR recertification to the Victoria site, which employs about 600 employees, after a thorough third-party audit as part of the VPP recertification process. The agency evaluated the site’s safety and health programs, operations performance and safety record. The site also received the Star Among Stars award for 2014 safety performance at the May 2015 Voluntary Protection Programs Participants' Association (VPPPA) annual Region VI conference.
John M. Hermanson, OSHA regional administrator (Region VI), said, “The INVISTA Victoria Site serves as model for other employers and workers by operating excellent safety and health management programs. Achieving a level of worker protection that goes beyond compliance with government regulations is commendable.”
INVISTA’s Victoria, Texas site is a key asset of the INVISTA Intermediates business. The site, which is located on 4,500 acres in south Victoria county, primarily manufactures nylon 6,6 intermediate chemicals of adiponitrile, hexamethylenediamine, and adipic acid that are used in the manufacture of the INVISTA consumer brands of STAINMASTER®, ANTRON® and CORDURA®, as well as a broad variety of other nylon fiber, resins and specialty products.
