INVISTA bridges cost, performance gap between typical nylons and HPPA
Samples of its transparent nylon now available
Presenting customers with a new option that has attractive properties and performance, INVISTA’s developmental transparent nylons are now available for sampling. Through dedicated research and development, INVISTA has created several transparent nylon offerings that have prime blending capabilities, unique performance and a competitive price point.
INVISTA’s transparent nylons could replace polycarbonate in some applications, as a result of a need to improve chemical or fuel resistance, or potentially reduce costs by replacing a more expensive transparent nylon. Also, formulations with INVISTA’s transparent nylons are designed to bridge the performance/cost gap between typical nylons (nylon 6 and nylon 6,6) and high-performance polyamides (HPPA), giving OEMs, tier1s, molders and compounders the opportunity to replace HPPAs which can be costly and over-engineered.
“With our emerging specialty polyamide portfolio, we want to give customers the chance to break into new markets and applications that were previously out of their reach due to high HPPA prices,” said Allen Reihman, director of new business development at INVISTA. “Transparent nylons are just the start. We are also developing semicrystalline HPPAs and other new technologies that focus on automotive, electrical, film and industrial applications.”
INVISTA continues to make significant investments in product and application development capabilities, as well as manufacturing assets, for a growing range of specialty polyamides and engineered compounds.
“These investments are based on our existing integrated production of intermediate materials and our polymerization and solution-providing expertise,” said Kurt Burmeister, executive vice president of INVISTA’s Engineering Polymer Solutions businesses. “In addition to transparent nylons, we are also focusing our efforts on other specialty polyamides such as nylon 6,12 and nylon 12.”
Commercialization for INVISTA’s transparent nylons is expected later this year. To request a sample, please email nisp@INVISTA.com.
