INVISTA participates in community activities with a commitment to environmental protection
To celebrate World Environment Day on June 4, INVISTA hosted “My Green Qingpu” painting competition and environmental protection contest as part of its “Qingpu Good Neighbor” community program. The event was held in the eco-park at INVISTA’s Qingpu site, and was attended by officials from the Shanghai Zhangjiang Qingpu Hi-tech Park, Qingpu Civilization Office, Qingpu Volunteer Association and Xianghuaqiao Community Office, as well as teachers and students from the Xianghuaqiao Primary School and INVISTA employee volunteers.
Launched in 2012, the “Qingpu Good Neighbor” program is a community initiative sponsored by INVISTA’s sites in the Qingpu District. The program targets local residents including students, children of migrant workers, and the elderly, providing them with community services related to the environment, safety and health.
The World Environment Day drawing competition was open to all students at the Xianghuaqiao Primary School. After exploring INVISTA’s eco-park and taking on environmental protection challenges, thirty-six winners accomplished the task. The creative activities help students and local community residents develop sound awareness and practices regarding environmental protection.
Additionally, on June 5 employees from INVISTA’s Qingpu airbag fiber plant participated in “Bike Around, Travel Green” – the World Environment Day theme event hosted by Qingpu Industrial Park. The volunteers engaged in encouraging environmental awareness among enterprise employees and citizens in surrounding communities.
INVISTA pursues its sustainability vision through continuous efforts in improving environmental, health and safety performance; supporting effective local stewardship initiatives; and encouraging employee involvement in causes which enhance the quality of life in the community. “As one of the major international enterprises in the Qingpu District, we are pleased to work with all of you to enhance the Xianghuaqiao community and construct a harmonious Qingpu as a way of benefiting our society,” said Brian Zhang, INVISTA Qingpu site manager.
INVISTA is one of the world’s largest integrated producers of chemical intermediates, polymers and fibers. The Qingpu District is an important manufacturing and R&D base in Shanghai, China, for INVISTA. In 2013, INVISTA doubled the capacity of its air bag fiber manufacturing plant in the Qingpu District, becoming the largest air bag fiber producer in Asia. The company also operates spandex and carpet fiber manufacturing sites as well as the China Textile Research Center in the Qingpu District.
