LYCRA® Fiber Manufacturing Site Celebrates 38 Years Accident-free
Today, INVISTA’s Paulínia, Brazil, site completes 38 years without a single lost-time accident. The achievement is an example of INVISTA’s commitment to providing a safe work environment around the world, including at its Paulínia and Americana sites in Brazil. The Paulínia site produces LYCRA® fiber, ELASPAN® fiber, XTRA LIFE LYCRA® fiber and LYCRA HyFit™ fiber to supply the growing Brazilian textile market.
“For 38 years, since our site first began operations in 1974, we’ve maintained a perfect record: zero lost-time accidents,” said Nicésio Cascone, vice president of Operations for the Americas and Europe. “Considering our Paulínia site operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week with nearly 600 employees and contractors, this is a special achievement for us and our community.”
This 38-year accident-free record is the longest among any INVISTA manufacturing site. INVISTA promotes safety management and compliance standards among its employees and contractors, and strives for 10,000% compliance, with 100 percent of employees fully complying 100 percent of the time.
“The prevention of occupational accidents is present in our vision and our goals,” said Cascone. “It is part of our culture and experienced every day in our work environment through each procedure at the facility, in each meeting and is also reflected in the results achieved. It is the responsibility of all employees to maintain this accomplishment.”
INVISTA empowers its employees to proactively address safety concerns and has developed work safety, environmental and compliance programs to train employees and contractors on how to identify potential risks. Additionally, the company established the INVISTA STAR Award, an internal certification for INVISTA sites in recognition of commitment to sustainable safety programs that protect both the employees and the environment. The award follows criteria based on standards from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The Paulínia site was the first site to receive the INVISTA STAR.
