INVISTA's New Lacquer Stripper for Cleaning Has Unique Environmental Attributes

July 16, 2004
WICHITA, Kan., July 16, 2004 - INVISTA Specialty Intermediates has introduced DBETM-LVP for cost-effective maintenance of brass, aluminum, steel and other metal surfaces in commercial buildings and other indoor environments. The product is available directly from INVISTA or through authorized distributors.

"Many of the headaches building owners and managers face in maintaining metal surfaces are eliminated using DBETM-LVP," said Melinda Burn, DBETM product manager for cleaning and maintenance markets at INVISTA. "Our tests show that it removes lacquer as quickly as other thinners or strippers, but is distinguished because of its safety, health, and environmental qualities."

DBETM-LVP meets state and federal consumer product regulations as a low vapor pressure - volatile organic compound (LVP-VOC). This means it is not counted as a volatile organic compound (VOC); giving DBETM-LVP a significant operational advantage over many lacquer strippers currently on the market. Beginning January 1, 2005, several states will implement regulations limiting VOC content of paint and lacquer removal products to 50 percent.

DBETM-LVP has several other safety, health and environmental qualities that distinguish it from incumbent products:

* Low-odor - can be used in commercial buildings during normal business hours, thereby eliminating costly night work.
* Low evaporation rate and low toxicity - significantly reduces personalprotective apparel requirements, thereby minimizing public perception and possible liability claims that workers are using hazardous products.
* High flash point - greatly reduces fire potential from various ignition sources (such as cigarettes, static and electric cars).

The DBE product portfolio includes DBE dibasic esters, a family of low toxicity, environmentally friendly fluids, as well as DBA dibasic acids. They are key ingredients for a diverse array of applications including industrial cleaners, coatings, foundry cores, plasticizers, and various chemical intermediates. Additional information on these products, including DBETM-LVP, can be obtained on the DBE website: www.dbe.invista.com.
