Celebrity Designer Vern Yip Travels to Port Charlotte for STAINMASTER® Carpet Designer Makeover
Terry Sprow wins national contest for new carpet and room makeover

ATLANTA – Celebrity designer Vern Yip, formerly of TLC’s hit show “Trading Spaces”, will visit one lucky winner in Port Charlotte, Florida, on March 4 to deliver the grand prize of the STAINMASTER® carpet Designer Makeover Contest. Terry Sprow has won up to 1,500 square feet of STAINMASTER® carpet and/or area rugs, including cushion, and a one room makeover. The value of his prize is estimated at $23,000.

Sprow beat out more than 9,000 other entrants. Vern and a panel of judges determined that Sprow’s essay on his sense of style and design, coupled with a room photograph, were the winning combination. The winner of the STAINMASTER® carpet Designer Makeover Contest was announced in January.

“I am absolutely elated about winning the STAINMASTER® carpet Designer Makeover Contest,” Sprow said. “Winning this contest is incredible to me because I know that STAINMASTER® carpet is known for fashionable and durable carpet. I have seen Vern’s designs and his work both on TV and across the Internet and have been highly impressed. His talent and dynamic creativity is well documented. I am looking forward to welcoming him to Florida.”

Earlier this month, Vern consulted with Sprow and has since incorporated a design plan that reflects Sprow’s lifestyle and personal sense of style.

"Terry’s room is an exciting and dynamic space with a large amount of unfulfilled potential, and I am looking forward to incorporating his own sense of style to create a dramatic makeover,” Vern said. “I will use STAINMASTER® carpet as the foundation for creating a unique design, and the result will be a beautifully updated home, complete with the most flexible and durable carpet available today.”

STAINMASTER® carpet selected STAINMASTER Flooring CenterSM G. Fried Flooring, with locations in Venice and Sarasota, to install the STAINMASTER® carpet, Meritage from Fabrica® International. Sprow requested a carpet style that incorporates a Florida theme. Meritage by Fabrica® is an innovative pattern that draws inspiration from Autumn leaves blanketing a forest floor. Other vendors participating in the makeover include Burnett Painting, Inc. in Port Charlotte, Florida, and Thomasville furniture.

The contest, which ran from October through January, required participants to submit an essay explaining why their sense of style and design qualified them to win. Based on their essays, 25 finalists were chosen and asked to submit one photo of the room to be made over. The judges and Vern selected the grand prize winner based on his initial essay score and the photo. Twenty-four first prize winners received the book Trading Spaces: Behind the Scenes, autographed by Vern Yip.
