The Gear Junkie Presents the Winner of “The CORDURA® brand Search for the Most Durable Person” Contest
Grand prize winner receives trip to Salt Lake City for the 2011 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market and Hiking Excursion with The Gear Junkie
The Gear Junkie, a well-known online product review and news website for the outdoor industry, in conjuction with the CORDURA® brand, announces the winner of the ‘The CORDURA® brand Search for the Most Durable Person’ contest. The sweepstakes ran from May 1-31 and encouraged outdoor enthusiasts to submit anecdotes telling why they believe they are a durable person. As the grand-prize winner, William Brown, the ultimate advocate of an active and healthy lifestyle, will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Salt Lake City, Utah, in August during the 2011 Outdoor Retailer (OR) Summer Market trade show. The trip will also include a hiking excursion with The Gear Junkie’s very own editor and publisher, Stephen Regenold, during the Outdoor Retailer Open Air Demo 2011 at Jordanelle State Park.
“With a full marathon, an ultra-marathon, and 50 mile run under his belt, not to mention selling his car in 2011 and officially committing to running and/or biking everywhere, Brown is the epitome of durability,” said Stephen Regenold, founder and editor of The Gear Junkie.
To date, Brown has racked up more than 1,000 miles and will continue his journey through September 2011. Additionally, to give others the chance to experience the benefits of running for themselves, Brown teamed up with Soles4Soles, a non-profit organization committed to providing shoes to those less fortunate, to host a shoe drive during the month of May.
“The CORDURA® brand team is enthusiastic about The Gear Junkie’s selection of Brown as the ‘most durable person winner’,” said Cindy McNaull, global CORDURA® brand and marketing director. “The embodiment of an outdoor enthusiast, Brown uses his passion to inspire and benefit others. He shows strength, toughness and long-lasting durability in every day life, three qualities the CORDURA® brand continuously strives for.”
Throughout the past month, contest entries for The Gear Junkie’s The CORDURA® brand Search for the Most Durable Person were posted live on The Gear Junkie website with the option of uploading a video or photos, and sharing stories with others via Facebook and Twitter. The contest coincided with the launch of the CORDURA® brand “Tell Us Your Durability Story” website featured on www.CORDURA.com. The interactive site encourages viewers to share their unique adventure stories, obstacles that have been overcome and ways in which their durability has been tested.
“The CORDURA® brand has a strong association with long-lasting durable products for outdoor adventurers, and we are thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with The Gear Junkie to present the search for the most durable person,” said Cindy McNaull, global CORDURA® brand and marketing director. “Through our affiliation with The Gear Junkie, we had hoped their CORDURA® brand Search for the Most Durable Person contest would inspire others to get outdoors and test their own limits.. These winners have truly inspired us to continue developing durable, performance-driven fabrics for today’s durable people.”
The Gear Junkie’s The CORDURA® brand Search for the Most Durable Person contest is also honoring two runners-up: Andy Theiman, an avid cyclist who used his hobby to push through chemotherapy treatments and conquer cancer, and JD Eskelson, a former soldier who now dedicates himself to biking and running adventures. Both men will receive an assortment of products made with CORDURA® brand fabrics in appreciation for their participation in and dedication to promoting activity in the outdoors.
