INVISTA Kingston celebrates 75 years of nylon production and innovation

KINGSTON, Ontario - Dec. 5, 2017 - When INVISTA’s site in Kingston started production in 1942, it was Canada’s first and the world’s second nylon plant. Seventy-five years later, the site continues to manufacture innovative nylon products for use in air bags, carpet, automotive and electrical parts, and more.

The site held a celebration today to mark this milestone anniversary. Local government representatives and other guests joined INVISTA leadership at the ceremony, where a commemorative plaque was unveiled.

“We are grateful to the Kingston community for contributing to our site’s strong heritage,” said Dennis McAllister, site manager. “We would also like to thank our employees, past and present, for their dedication and willingness to embrace change and seek innovative ways to continually create value for our customers and society.”

The Kingston site was built and originally operated by DuPont. Built in 1942, the facility was approved as a defense project in support of the war effort, manufacturing parachute fibers for use during World War II.

Today, INVISTA Kingston continues to develop and grow new capabilities in nylon polymers and pursue innovations to improve manufacturing production and product yield. The site is home to INVISTA’s global research and development center for industrial nylon fibers and is situated on approximately 240 acres at Carruther’s Point on Lake Ontario, Canada.
