The products and brands we make at our facilities around the world intersect with your daily life, even though you may not always notice them. This includes the polymers, fibers and resins we make, as well as the brands, trademarks and innovations we take to market for the benefit of everyone.
Since the 1930s, nylon has become an essential part of everyday life. It’s integrated into your clothing, your shoelaces, your carpet and even the air bags that keep you safe. Our nylon products start with the chemical intermediates we produce – think “ingredients” – like adiponitrile (ADN), hexamethylene diamine (HMD) and adipic acid (AA) that help make modern-day clothing, and modern-day life, possible.
One of the key products made from INVISTA adiponitrile (ADN) is nylon 6,6. As a versatile thermoplastic, nylon 6,6 can be melted and shaped to serve many applications, from heat-resistant auto parts to consumer electronics and kitchen appliances. But nylon 6,6 pellets can also be melted and extruded as continuous fibers. Due to their high strength and flexibility, these fibers can be used for everything from pantyhose to tough automotive air bags and durable sportswear.
Anyone leading an active lifestyle can’t be held back by restrictive fabrics. That’s why our strong, yet lightweight LYCRA® fiber is designed to move with you. Because it offers lasting comfort and retains its shape, LYCRA® fiber is used in almost every conceivable type of garment, from jeans to swimwear and intimate apparel. But it’s not just perfect for clothing – in diapers, LYCRA HyFit® fiber provides a comfortable fit at the waist and legs, helping to keep babies happy.
While you might not always notice them, our brands and technologies are hard at work making life a little more comfortable for everyone. Whether it’s hot or cold outside, apparel made with our COOLMAX® and THERMOLITE® technologies allow those who love the great outdoors to embrace the elements. And our DACRON® fiberfill technology is used in countless sleep products, offering cozier slumbers.
Over the years, we’ve discovered new ways to turn the byproducts of our primary manufacturing processes into innovative new products. Through DYTEK® Idea Intermediates, we provide the amines used in curing agents for composites and laminates. Our TERRIN™ polyols can be used as replacement polyols in a variety of conventional polyurethane products. And our FLEXISOLV® solvents include chemical alternatives used in inks, coatings and adhesives.
On their own, our spandex intermediates do a lot more than just provide comfort and fit to clothing. Our TERATHANE® polyether glycol (PTMEG) is also used to create high-performance polyurethanes, while our butanediol (BDO) allows us to make a variety of esters. And we use our Tetrahydrofuran (THF) as a resin solvent for polyurethanes used in coating media like magnetic tapes, but also in PVC coatings and printing inks for plastics.
Our polyester resins play a major role in product shelf life, and we make a number of products that help extend freshness. Like our POLYSHIELD® resin that protects oxygen-sensitive foods and beverages like beers, juices and wines. Or our POLYCLEAR® PET family of recyclable containers that offer optimum color, clarity and versatility. And for oxygen-sensitive foods and beverages, our OXYCLEAR® barrier resin provides long-term shelf-life protection while preserving taste.
At INVISTA, we have a strong portfolio of advantaged technologies available for license covering the polyester supply chain, spandex intermediates, nylon 6,6 polymer and refining optimization.
