INVISTA Kingston Unveils New Stewardship Initiative to Transform Mowed Lawns into Vibrant Wildflower Meadows
KINGSTON, Ont. -- INVISTA’s Kingston, Ontario site today announced the launch of a new environmental stewardship project aimed at transforming 9 acres of mowed lawn areas into thriving wildflower meadows. The wildflower meadows initiative underscores INVISTA Kingston's commitment to environmental stewardship and aligns with the company's broader goals to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and foster greater biodiversity.
INVISTA Kingston has distributed approximately 100kg of seed around the site, which once complete, will provide critical habitats for pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and other essential wildlife, promoting ecological diversity and stability. In addition, the wildflower meadows initiative will reduce the need for mowing, lowering emissions from lawn maintenance equipment and thus contributing to a decrease in overall operational emissions.
"Our goal with this project is to redefine how we manage our landscapes to better support environmental health. By converting lawn areas into wildflower meadows, we're taking actionable steps to enhance biodiversity, support local ecosystems, and contribute to reducing emissions for our community,” said Gilles St-Aubin, Stewardship Manager for INVISTA Kingston.
INVISTA Kingston plans to reach out to local environmental organizations and community groups to communicate its objectives with this project and the site’s commitment to stewardship.
The project is set to begin this spring, with the first blooms expected by next summer.
